On Friday, June 22nd, the Dominican Sisters of Caldwell opened their Assembly by honoring Sister Patricia Hogan, OP, with the 2018 Dominican Sisters Peace Award. This award, established in 1995 by the congregation’s Commission on Global Issues, is intended to honor an individual or group who has made a significant contribution to justice and peace.

River Forest, IL – Dominican University President Donna M. Carroll was presented with the inaugural Cornerstones Award from the Sinsinawa Dominican Sisters, the founders of the university, during a ceremony at the Mound on Monday, May 14. Carroll was honored for modeling the hope, courage, vision and faith embodied by the first four professed members of the Sinsinawa Dominican congregation—Sister Clara Conway, Sister Josephine Cahill, Sister Ignatia Fitzpatrick and Sister Rachel Conway—which was founded by Father Samuel Mazzuchelli in the mid-19th century in southeastern Wisconsin.

The London Independent Film Awards awarded Best Documentary for April 2018 to a feature documentary, South Texas Gentle Men of Steel—Los Padres, written, produced and directed by Southern Dominican friar, Armando P. Ibáñez, O.P.
“London Independent Film Awards is a monthly competition with annual screenings, recognizing and awarding the work of independent filmmakers worldwide,” states a description posted on Filmfreeway.com. “A selection of best films will be shortlisted to compete in our Grand jury competition and screened at our annual festival held on Sat 30th March 2019 at The Roxy Bar & Screen, London.”

On April 4, the Houston Anti-Defamation League honored Jane Meyer, OP and other civic leaders at its Concert Against Hate, featuring the Houston Symphony and moving stories of ADL’s work to combat hate and promote respect. Sr. Jane received the Julie and Ben Rogers Ecumenism Award for her strong voice for justice and interfaith understanding as a long-serving board member of ADL’s Coalition for Mutual Respect. Sr. Jane, as Head of School of St. Agnes Academy in Houston, helps to instill a commitment to social justice, compassion, and integrity in more than 900 young women every year.

Sister of St. Dominic of Amityville, Karen Lademann, was honored on April 9, 2018, as one of three recipients of the first annual Trinity Award! The TRINITY HUMAN SERVICES CORPORATION was founded in 1979 in the Most Holy Trinity Parish on Montrose Ave. in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Karen has served as the President of the Board and has been a faithful witness to the people of that neighborhood for years. As a guest commented: “S. Karen is a wonderful advocate for the people of Trinity parish.” As she now ministers as a Wellness advocate for our Sisters at the Motherhouse, we see that her advocacy continues!
