Dominican Sisters of Adrian Learn of Justice Issues in Philippines

August 16, 2017, Adrian, Michigan – One of the focuses of ministry for many Adrian Dominican Sisters and Associates is advocating for social justice in a wide range of issues. Adrian Dominican Sisters from the United States had a special opportunity on August 2 to learn about the justice issues facing their Sisters in the Philippines, members of the Our Lady of Remedies Mission Chapter.

Sister Antonette Lumbang, OP – Justice Promoter for the Remedies Chapter – gave a presentation on three key justice issues that her nation faces, as well as the responses to those issues by the Sisters of the Remedies Chapter. Sisters Maria Socorro Garcia, OP, and Lourdes Pamintuan, OP also took part in the presentation.

Dominican Sisters of Adrian Welcome Six New Associates

The newest Adrian Dominican Associates are, from left, Cheryl Boyce, who joined in May, Barbara Lawrence, Laurie Susie, Rev. Cathy Johnson, Joan Ebbitt, Mary Rooney, and Sherry Goff.

August 9, 2017, Adrian, Michigan – Six women were formally welcomed as Adrian Dominican Associates on the evening of August 5 during Partners V, the fifth annual gathering of Associates.

Associates are women and men – at least 18 years of age – who share in the vision and mission of the Adrian Dominican Sisters through a non-vowed commitment.

Mary Lach, Director of Associate Life, presided over the Ritual of Acceptance, in St. Catherine Chapel at the Adrian Dominican Motherhouse. Deb Carter, Associate and member of the Associate Life Board, served as Ritual Leader, introducing each mentor, who in turn introduced the Associate she’d worked with.

Dominican Sister of Peace Annette Winter, OP Honored for Service

Great Bend, KS – “I never considered anything that I do ‘volunteer work.’ I see that something needs to be done, and I do it. It’s just the way that I am.”

That’s how Sr. Annette Winter, OP, a Dominican Sister of Peace in Great Bend, KS, responded to being named “Volunteer of the Year” by RSVP/VIA of Central Kansas. And it really is exactly how she lives her life – every day.

“Sr. Annette is NOT the volunteer that you see on the stage taking a bow at an event,” said Rebecca Ford, Communications and Development Director at Catholic Charities. Ford and Lori Titsworth, the agency’s Adoption Social Worker, nominated Sr. Annette for the award.

Dominican Sisters of Caldwell Send Forth Gina Scaringella to Novitiate

On Sunday, August 6th, the Dominican Sisters of Caldwell held the Rite of Reception into the Novitiate for Gina Scaringella. A native of Fairfield, New Jersey, Gina was welcomed last fall for a period of candidacy during which she prepared herself by further developing spiritual, intellectual and relational gifts under the direction of Sister Marie Mueller, OP, Candidate Director, and the rest of the Formation Team.

From June 25-30, 2017, 41 Dominican sisters attended the Maryknoll Mission Institute Program “Companionship of Empowerment: Religious Life in the 21st Century” presented by Fr. D Diarmuid O’Murchu, MSC. The Dominican sisters in attendance were:  Dominican Sisters of Blauvelt; Dominican Sisters of Sinsinawa; Dominican Sisters of Sparkill with their 4 Pakistani sisters attending; Maryknoll Sisters of St. Dominic.
