‘Dominican Sisters of Peace Meet with Ohio Governor’
COLUMBUS, OH, August 16 – On Thursday, August 16, Ohio Governor John Kasich met with religious sisters from all over the state for lunch and discussion at the Governor’s Residence in Columbus. Sisters Pat Twohill, Nadine Buchanan, and Barbara Kane represented the Dominican Sisters of Peace at this meeting, the second such conducted by the Kasich administration during his eight years as Governor. Kasich held the first of these luncheons in 2016 to celebrate the canonization of St. Teresa of Calcutta.
Governor Kasich opened this year’s conversation with his personal concern that people are not hearing about compassion, mercy, and justice in their churches, and are not bringing Jesus’ message of inclusion out to the world.

Dominican Sisters of Adrian: ‘Dominican Artists Gather in Adrian’
August 13, 2018, Adrian, Michigan – Sister Nancy Murray, OP (Adrian) – a theatrical performer who has portrayed St. Catherine of Siena in a one-woman performance throughout the world – received the Fra Angelico Award July 27 from the Dominican Institute for the Arts (DIA). The Fra Angelico Award – named after the great 15th-century Dominican artist – is the highest honor that the DIA bestows on its members.
The Fra Angelico Award presentation was one of the highlights of the 2018 DIA Gathering, which brought Dominican artists – visual artists, musicians, poets, photographers, film-makers, and others – to Weber Center in Adrian July 25-29.

Photo of the Week: ‘Sisters of Earth 2018 Conference’
“Sisters of Earth is an informal network of women who share a deep concern for the ecological and spiritual crises of our times and who wish to support one another in work toward healing the human spirit and restoring Earth’s life support systems.” At this year’s conference, eight Dominican Sisters for Hope, Adrian, Grand Rapids, and Racine joined another 100 women at Mount St. Joseph University in Cincinnati.

Dominican Sisters of Caldwell: ‘Celebrating Our Dominican Journey’
On Saturday, August 4th, over one hundred Caldwell Dominican sisters, former members, associates and Dominican laity had the opportunity to reconnect and share their individual and collective journeys while celebrating the Feast of Saint Dominic. After Sister Patrice Werner, OP, opened the celebration by offering the gathering a warm welcome, Dr. Kathy Detlet, D.Min., assisted by Jane Albert, Lynne Kennedy, Catherine Cappiello, OPA, and Sister Mary McGuinness, OP, lead the group in prayer, which closed with the Dominican Blessing. Those gathered were then treated to a visual presentation of the congregation’s journey from the beginning of the Dominican Order through the Brooklyn and Jersey City years to present-day Caldwell, New Jersey.
