Dominican Sisters of Adrian ‘Offer Educational Forum on Resilient Communities’

July 23, 2018, Adrian, Michigan – The second in a series of educational forums on resilient communities is being offered by Adrian Dominican Sisters from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 22, 2018, at Weber Retreat and Conference Center. Titled “Resiliency in our Midst,” the program includes presentations by Adrian Dominican Sisters Judy Byron, OP, Maurine Barzantni, OP, and Janet Stankowski, OP, on their experiences in serving in resilient communities.

Dominican Sisters of Amityville: ‘Sister Gina Fleming, OP Wins the Sister Pat Brady Award’

This year was the 20th Dominican High Schools Preaching Conference on June 25-30, 2018! This event gathers students and mentors from around the nation to learn about the Order of Preachers and the Dominican spirit! It’s our way of carrying on the charism! The event was held in Michigan this year…with 80 students from 19 high schools around the nation attending, including St. Agnes Academic High School in College Point, NY.

‘Dominican Sister of Peace on Front Lines after ICE Raid’

Sister Rene Weeks, OP, is Director of Centro San Pablo, the Hispanic Ministry of St. Paul Church in Salem, OH.

Salem, OH – The largest workplace raid this year took place in Salem, OH, on June 19. At that time, 140 people working at a meat processing facility were detained by ICE and transported to a processing center about an hour away.

“It was a shock,” said Sr. Rene Weeks, a Dominican Sister of Peace serving as the Director of the Hispanic ministry, Centro San Pablo, at St. Paul Catholic Church in Salem. She and the other members of the St. Paul Congregation mobilized immediately to serve the families left behind in the wake of the raid.
