Dominican Charism Initiative: ‘Announcing the Launch of the Dominican Charism Modules’
We are happy to announce that the long-awaited Dominican Charism on-line learning platform will be launched Easter Monday, April 13th with the activation of the first two modules. Sr. Connie Schoen, OP shares the story of “The Life, Spirit and Mission of St. Dominic.” “The Call to Preach” module involves sessions by Sr. Sara Fairbanks, OP, Fr. Timothy Radcliffe, OP, Sr. Angela Mwaba, OP and Sr. Megan McElroy, OP. This module also includes short video clips of diverse members of the Dominican family and video clips focused on the preaching of the community of Barry University, the Sisters of Peace, the Summit Nuns in New Jersey, the Racine Dominicans, and the Maryknoll Sisters. An additional video by Sr. Barbara Schwarz, OP focuses on preaching through the arts.
Aquinas Institute of Theology: Doctor of Ministry in Preaching
Aquinas Institute of Theology in St. Louis is seeking students for its Doctor of Ministry in Preaching Program. Since its inception in 1993 as the only Catholic doctoral program in preaching, the program has remained unique. Our hybrid style of learning enables students to maintain their full-time ministry commitments. Students engage in online study and dialogue throughout the semester with a mid-course, on-campus intensive seminar held locally in St. Louis.
Dominican Sisters of Peace: ‘School Visit an Education for Sisters and St. Mary’s Dominican High School’
New Orleans, LA – Zimbabwe and Zambia are two neighboring states in South Africa. Despite the distance of more than 400 miles between them, two Dominican sisters are connected through their work in education. Both Sisters are members of the Dominican Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and are sponsored by the Dominican Sisters of Peace as they earn advanced degrees in Education at Ohio Dominican University in Columbus, OH.
Next January, Sr. Hilda Chanyau, O.P. will become principal at Emerald School for the Deaf in Harare, Zimbabwe. In that role she will be responsible for supervising staff, building relationships with students, monitoring the school, enforcing disciplinary codes, and performing administrative duties.
Sr. Florence Kapongolo, O.P. has similar responsibilities as principal at Trinity Girls’ Secondary School, formerly Kabunda Girls. The school is located in a district called Mansa, one of the rural provinces of Zambia.
‘Praying with the Fathers of the Church: St. Gregory of Nyssa and the Lord’s Prayer’
In his reflection on the Lord’s Prayer, St. Gregory of Nyssa’s approach to prayer remains particularly attractive for us because it reflects the concerns of Christians today, in particular the need to participate actively in the life of the world.
