‘Dominican Sisters of Peace Aid Annunciation House’

Columbus, OH – Neatly stacked in shipping boxes, they take up most of Justice Promoter Barbara Kane’s office at the Dominican Sisters of Peace Motherhouse in Columbus, OH. Spread out end to end, they would cover the length of four football fields, colorful and emblazoned with stripes and flowers, super heroes and comic book characters. But to the refugees at the border with Mexico, these thousands of pairs of fresh, new socks and underwear are a luxury after weeks, and sometimes months, of walking in the same clothing day after day.

Sr. Barbara volunteered at Annunciation House, a ministry of welcome and compassion to refugees in El Paso, earlier this year, and was struck by the need that she saw while working there. “People are so generous, and donate lots of clothing,” she said. “But at Annunciation House, new socks and underwear are always needed. After all, would you want to wear socks and underwear that another person has worn? Are new items not the very least we can for these people who are working so hard to enter our country?”

‘Dominican Sisters of Hope Elect New Leadership Team’

Ossining, NY— The Dominican Sisters of Hope joyfully announce the election of their new leadership team.

The election took place on Sunday afternoon, April 28, in Tarrytown, NY. Catherine (Cass) McDonnell, Vice Chancellor for Urban Ministry and Planning for the Diocese of Paterson, NJ, was elected Prioress. Patricia Magee, a Special Education Coordinator at Mid-Hudson Regional Early Education Center in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., ConstanceLynn Kelly, currently on the leadership team, Margaret Anderson, currently on the leadership team, and Elizabeth Menard, formerly Regional Director of Christian Formation for the Ogdensburg Diocese, were elected councilors.

Dominican Sisters of Springfield Elect New Leadership

The new Springfield Dominican Leadership team will begin their responsibilities after the planned June 15, 2019 installation ceremony at Sacred Heart Convnet. “On Sunday April 28 the Dominican Sisters of Springfield capped off a week of common study, prayer and contemplation—called a General Chapter—by electing to leadership the sisters who will animate their common life and mission for the coming five years.” Sister Rebecca Ann Gemma, OP, was re-elected as prioress general, Sister Rose Miriam Schulte, OP, was elected as vicaress, and Sisters Mila Diaz Solano, OP, and Marie Michelle Hackett, OP, will serve as second and third councilors.
