Dominican Sister of Peace Nadine Buchanan Awarded by Martha’s Giving Circle

Sister Nadine Buchanan, OP, addresses the members of the Martha’s Giving Circle, an initiative of the Columbus Catholic Foundation. Sr. Nadine’s ministry with trafficked women was gifted with a grant from the organization.

Columbus, OH – Sister Nadine Buchanan, OP, and her Columbus, OH, Street Outreach Ministry has been awarded a $4,000 grant by the Martha’s Giving Circle, an initiative of the Columbus Catholic Foundation.

Sr. Nadine takes food, clothing and other aid to women on the streets of Columbus, OH daily. She is an active volunteer with the Franklin County Catch Court, a local therapeutic jurisprudence program for trafficked women, and also volunteers with Freedom Ala Carte′, a catering company that offers training, employment and support to women who have escaped trafficking. In 2014, Sr. Nadine was honored with an Ohio Liberators Award for her work with trafficked women.

The Racine Police Department ‘Tackles Human Trafficking with Task Force’ and Dominican Sisters

Faith and Film: The Beguiled

Movie Review by Fr. Tom Condon, O.P.

The Beguiled, a new film directed by Sofia Coppola, is set in 1864 Virginia. While the Civil War rages on, with cannons booming in the distance, an oddly protected life goes on behind the gates of Miss Farnsworth’s Seminary for Girls. Only four students remain at the school run by Martha Farnsworth (Nicole Kidman), with assistance from tutor Edwina (Kirsten Dunst) and teenaged helper Alicia (Elle Fanning). While war goes on around them, Martha schools the girls in everything from French to literature to music to gardening. It’s nice to hear psalms and hymns recited and chanted!

Dominican High Schools Preaching Conference 2017

July 5, 2017, Adrian, Michigan – Some 92 students from 24 Dominican high schools spent June 23-28 exploring their Dominican heritage and learning that the call of the Order of Preachers is to preach through their lives.

A collaboration of congregations of Dominican Sisters as well as the Dominican Friars, the 19th Annual Dominican High Schools Preaching Conference was hosted at Siena Heights University and the Motherhouse of the Dominican Sisters of Adrian. Students and their adult mentors came from California, New York, New Jersey, Ohio, Texas, Illinois, Wisconsin, Tennessee, Puerto Rico, and, for the first time, Australia to gather with their peers and form a community of young Dominican preachers.

‘New Adrian Dominican Associates Welcomed in Michigan and Florida’

June 1, 2017, Adrian, Michigan – May was a busy month for Associate Life as nine new Associates were welcomed, one in Michigan and eight in Florida. Associates are women and men, at least 18 years of age – married, single, widowed, or divorced – who make a non-vowed commitment to partner with the Adrian Dominican Sisters.
