Dominican Sisters of Sinsinawa: Ecological Merton Retreat

sinsinawa dominicans SINSINAWA, Wis.—Thomas Merton’s (1915-1968) insights on nature and spirituality will be the focus of the Ecological Merton retreat 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10. Merton was a Trappist monk, mystic, writer, interfaith pioneer, and voice for peace and social justice who also had a profound environmental vision. His deep spirituality connected him with the life of the natural world around him, leading to insights about humanity’s place within God’s creation. Marking Merton’s unofficial “feast day,” this Advent retreat will contemplatively delve into Merton’s life, writings, and environmental consciousness—and what they might mean for us today.

Southern Dominican Friar’s Documentary, “South Texas Gentle Men of Steel – Los Padres,” Wins 11th Award

awards-poster A feature documentary directed by a Southern Dominican friar completed the festival circuit by winning its 11^thfilm award this month. The Oregon International Film Awards awarded South Texas Gentle Men of Steel – Los Padres its highest-level honor, a Platinum Award.

Master of the Order, Fr. Bruno Cadoré, O.P., Visits Province of Saint Martin de Porres

The Master of the Order of Preachers, fr. Bruno Cadore, O.P., together with fr. Orlando Rueda Acevedo, O.P. (Socius for the Apostolic Life) & fr. Dominic Izzo, O.P. (Socius for the USA) recently visited the Dominican Family in San Antonio,Texas on Monday the 24th of October. Friars, Lay Dominicans, & Apostolic Sisters, joined the parishioners of Saint Stephen's for Vespers in the parish. A reception was then held in the parish hall. It has been a blessing to have our Master to visit our Province of Saint Martin de Porres during this 800th Jubilee (1216-2016) of the Order of Preachers.
