On Friday evening, December 2, 2016, the Dominican Sisters of Houston partnered with Campaign Nonviolence to host a prayer service commemorating the anniversary of the assassinations of Sisters Ita Ford, Dorothy Kazal, Maura Clarke and Maryknoll lay missionary Jean Donovan. The concept to partner with Campaign Nonviolence surfaced when the Justice, Peace and Care of Creation Commission discussed the Nonviolence and Just Peace Conference held in Rome April 11-13, 2016 which was co-sponsored by Pax Christi International and by the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, Pax Christi International, and other international bodies. Campaign Nonviolence also participated in the International Day of Peace prayer in September.

Loving tells the true story of Richard (Joel Edgerton) and Mildred (Ruth Negga) Loving. When the movie opens in 1959, Mildred tells Richard she is pregnant. Knowing that it was illegal for two people of different races to marry in their home state of Virginia, Richard and Mildred drive to Washington, D.C., to marry. After their marriage, they return to live in Virginia. They are soon arrested and jailed for breaking the law. A judge tells them that they can either leave the state or face a long prison sentence if they remain in Virginia.

On November 16, 2016, the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill welcomed two new Associates to their congregation at a commitment ceremony in New York. The new Associates, Diane Dunne and Margaret Hayes, each made one-year commitments with the Dominican Sisters. Read article
