Sister of St. Dominic of Amityville, Karen Lademann, was honored on April 9, 2018, as one of three recipients of the first annual Trinity Award! The TRINITY HUMAN SERVICES CORPORATION was founded in 1979 in the Most Holy Trinity Parish on Montrose Ave. in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Karen has served as the President of the Board and has been a faithful witness to the people of that neighborhood for years. As a guest commented: “S. Karen is a wonderful advocate for the people of Trinity parish.” As she now ministers as a Wellness advocate for our Sisters at the Motherhouse, we see that her advocacy continues!

April 12, 2018, Kampala, Uganda – Cancer patients in Uganda face an uphill battle. Often, by the time they are diagnosed, they are already terminally ill. In addition, Uganda is tragically underserved in the area of health care: only one cancer center in the country and nine nurses per 10,000 people.
Kathleen Shannon Dorcy, an Adrian Dominican Associate and a 35-year oncology nurse, is part of a collaborative effort that hopes to change this situation in Uganda by offering training and support to the country’s nurses.

“For to be Dominican means to say WE…To be Dominican means to be a Family…!” (Mary Nona McGreal, OP, Dominicans at Home in a Young Nation: 1786-1865, 4)
Team McGreal is a vibrant Dominican family! This article highlights our current volunteers. You can learn about the staff on our Facebook page – thanks to Jenny Begich! For the past eight years, Jenny volunteers at the McGreal Center during her lunch break! She manages our Facebook page and created the “Humans of the McGreal” post series. Jenny earned a Masters in Library Information Science, and serves as an operational specialist in Dominican University’s Enrollment Department. She is an expert in data management and a wizard at technology. Why does Jenny spend that precious lunch working in the McGreal Center? Her Facebook entry explains: “. . . it seems that as soon as you walk into the McGreal Center all of the cares and stresses of the world disappear. And of course the parties!”
