In seeking ways to respond to the crisis of children being separated from their parents at the southern border, San Rafael Dominican sister and artist, Joanne Cullimore, OP painted an image and added a prayer in Spanish. It is a modern day retablo, an artistic expression she is familiar with from many years of painting trips she took to Mexico, New Mexico and other parts of the southwestern U.S.
The San Rafael Dominicans have made it into a prayer card and are inviting prayers for the children and their parents.

The Dominican Justice Promoters of North America met on June 27th to 29th in Des Plaines, Illinois to renew its mission and direction. Thirty-three participants gathered from California, Washington State, Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, Missouri, Kentucky, New Jersey, New York and other parts of the United States. We were proud to have a more inclusive representation of the Dominican Family of North America with representatives of the friars of Canada, Dominican Laity and Province and Congregational Representatives joining our annual meeting. Joining us were Communicators: Stacy Spitler of Grand Rapids, Angela Kessler of Adrian, Kate Martin of San Rafael, Gina Ciliberto of Hope and Michael Wilmsen of the Central Province.

The postcard campaign calling our elected official to pass reforms that make sale and possession of high-capacity semi-automatic weapons and ammunition magazines illegal and to institute comprehensive background checks and mandatory waiting periods realized over 4,000 postcards delivered to Congress and the White House.

Columbus, OH – It was cool and cloudy in Columbus, OH. Watertown, MA was a little sunny, but still cool. It was raining cats and dogs in Louisville, KY, but warm enough for short sleeves in the Big Easy.
What did these cities have in common on Saturday, March 24? In each of these cities, as well as in Hartford and Guilford, CT, Great Bend, KS, Harrodsburg, KY, Oxford, MI, and Akron, OH, Dominican Sisters of Peace stood in solidarity with the young people of the “March for our Lives” demanding sensible gun control and an end to gun violence.
