‘Empowerment and New Understanding Inside Mexico’

Beginning on June 18, 2017 a group of Dominicans and a Franciscan Capuchin Brother entered an emersion experience Inside Mexico. The seven week program, created by Casa Xitla in Mexico City provided guests a concentrated insight to Spanish Language, Mexican culture, history and the embodiment of Catholic Social Teaching toward migrant, indigenous and the poor. Brother Nicolas Reynolds, O.P. and Sister Ana Gonzalez shared with us some of their insights from the Inside Mexico experience.

Brendan Curran, OP (Province of St. Albert the Great) was appointed the new North American Dominican Co-Promoter of Justice, Peace and Care of Creation, I contacted Sr. Marcelline Koch, OP (Dominican Sister of Springfield) and Fr. Brendan for an interview about their collaborative work and what it means to be a promoter of justice.

Dominican University Siena Center: “Spirituality, Health Care Reform, and the Happy Death”

Rev. Charles Bouchard, OP presents “Spirituality, Health Care Reform, and the Happy Death” on September 14 at 7 pm.

Advances in medical technology have brought many blessings, but they have also led to soaring costs and a health care system that sometimes seems beyond our control, especially for the frail and elderly. How can we use technology effectively while honoring death as a spiritual event and part of our journey back to God? How can the traditional Catholic notion of the happy death influence debates about health care reform? A discussion of these topics will be led by Rev. Charles Bouchard, Senior Director of Theology and Ethics at the Catholic Health Association of the United States.

‘Members of the Dominican Family Deepen the Dominican Spirit in France’

Twenty-seven participants, religious sisters and friars, associates, and laity who minister in Dominican institutions, came from many parts of the USA as well as South Africa to spend time in France to deepen their understanding of the Dominican charism. The experience of praying and walking where St. Dominic lived and preached profoundly touched the group and each came away with a renewed sense of the Dominican Family. Conferences, prayer, and discussions as well as visits to other places of interest to Dominicans enhance the program. Each person traveled back home with a spirited desire to live and spread the Dominican charism more fully.
