It is with great joy and gratitude that we announce the completion of our 2019 Chapter and the election of our new leadership team for 2019-2024. The elected members, who will take office on September 22, 2019, are Sister Carla Kovack, OP (Prioress General), Sister Cathy Murray, OP (First Councillor), Sister Barbara Green, OP (Second Councillor), Sister Abby Newton, OP (Councillor), Sister Margaret Diener, OP (Councillor).
SINSINAWA, Wis.—The Sinsinawa Dominican Congregation held their annual “Community Days” gathering at Sinsinawa Mound July 24–28. Once nearly 2,000 Sisters in the mid-1960s, the congregation currently numbers 383 Sisters, and more than half live at Sinsinawa. Sisters continue to serve in 16 states and in Bolivia and Trinidad and Tobago. Due to their changing demographics, as well as changing demographics in the tri-state area, the Sisters are facing significant issues. During their annual gathering, the Sisters identified steps they need to take to respond.

July 16, 2019, Laredo, Texas – Two Adrian Dominican Sisters have spent weeks on the border of the United States and Mexico this summer, volunteering their services to migrant families who come to La Frontera Migrant Shelter in Laredo, Texas.
Sisters Patricia Erickson, OP, and Sharon Spanbauer, OP – along with other Adrian Dominican Sisters – have been serving at the shelter at the invitation and encouragement of the General Council of the Adrian Dominican Sisters, as well as the invitation of the Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR). Sister Sharon served at La Frontera from May 31, 2019, through June 22, 2019. Sister Pat arrived at the shelter on June 23, 2019, and will serve through July 20, 2019. Sisters have also volunteered their time at similar hospitality houses in El Paso and McAllen, Texas.

July 18, 2019, Adrian, Michigan – Marci Hamilton, a retired registered nurse and former student of Adrian Dominican Sisters, was welcomed into Associate Life July 15, 2019, during a Ritual of Acceptance in St. Catherine Chapel at the Adrian Dominican Sisters Motherhouse. She was mentored by Sister Barbara Quincey, OP.

[In June], the Sisters of Saint Dominic of Blauvelt, New York, welcomed Sister Cecilia Espenilla, OP, the International Promoter of Justice and Peace for Dominican Sisters International (DSI) to Blauvelt.
“It was very delightful to meet Sister Cecilia. Her commitment to justice is evident in our conversations,” shared Sister Ceil Lavan, OP, Blauvelt Justice Coordinator.
Before arriving at the Blauvelt Motherhouse, Sister Cecilia spent time in the Bronx at Siena House, where Sisters Cely Byrnes, Mary Doris, and Lauria Fitzgerald presently minister.
Sister Ceil shared, “she was a natural with the women and the babies. It was quite remarkable how the women gravitated towards her.”
After touring the Siena House and meeting residents, Sister Cecilia traveled to Saint Dominic Convent, where she toured the Motherhouse grounds and spent time with Sister Michaela Connolly, Blauvelt Prioress. Read full article
