‘Catholic-Muslim Group Meets at Dominican Sisters of Houston Retirement Home’

It’s not often that baby carriages mingle with the wheelchairs and walkers in the retired sisters’ dining room. But such was the case one Saturday in February, when a group of Catholics and Muslims met at St. Dominic Villa for their monthly gathering. Two of the members had had babies in the last year, and they brought their infants to the meeting. The group consists of parishioners from All Saints Catholic Church in Houston and Muslim men and women from Turkey. They came together a couple of years ago in order to foster understanding between Christians and Muslims.

Faith and Film – How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World

The How to Train Your Dragon animated movies have been hits with both audiences and critics over the last decade. Based on the books by Cressida Cowell, the movies tell the story of Hiccup (such a great name!), an awkward Viking boy, who befriends a young dragon named Toothless. In the first film, Hiccup is taught by his father that dragons are the enemies of humans. However, Hiccup takes a risk to find out that he can befriend the enemy. Dragons and Vikings become friends.

In the third installment, The Hidden World, Toothless falls in love with an elusive dragon. Hiccup finds that not everyone wants to make friends with dragons, so he sets out to find a place where dragons can live protected from humans. That’s about all there is to Part III.

Dominican Sisters of Adrian: ‘Workshop Teaches Participants to Move from Chaos to Breakthrough’

March 8, 2019 – Chaos may best describe how we are experiencing the political, social, and ecclesial world around us. In her workshop, “Chaos – Contemplation – Moving Toward Breakthrough,” Sister Nancy Sylvester, IHM, describes how we can live in this chaotic time in such a way that we move toward breakthrough rather than breakdown. The workshop is from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, March 23, 2019, at Weber Retreat and Conference Center.

‘Kathleen Woods Formally Accepted as Adrian Dominican Associate’

March 7, 2019, Adrian, Michigan – Kathleen Woods, Chair of the Adrian Dominican Sisters’ Portfolio Advisory Board (PAB), was formally accepted as an Adrian Dominican Associate March 1, 2019, during a festive afternoon. The Ritual of Acceptance was preceded by a 45-minute concert by pianist Timothy Hollinsead, husband of PAB member Leslie Watson-Hollinsead. The event was sponsored by the PAB.

Electronic Edition of Dominican Praise is Now Available

The Dominican Sisters of Peace are very pleased and excited to announce that the electronic edition of “Dominican Praise, a Provisional Book of Prayer for Dominican Women” is now available. Originally published in 2005 by eight Dominican congregations in the USA, Dominican Praise is a beautiful translation of the Liturgy of the Hours, prepared especially for the Dominican community.

The electronic edition allows the reader to enlarge font size and change the font style, as well as use bookmarks, a notebook for keeping track of pages, highlighting, and other useful tools. It contains all of the original materials except for the Alternative Readings and some of the music.
