On May 25, 2017, Sparkill’s Haiti Mission Team (two Dominican Sisters of Sparkill, one Dominican Sister of Caldwell, and a friend) departed for their 2017 trip to Haiti. During this trip, the team will be “checking the status of [their] building projects and water wells, training local community leaders who will run this summer’s kids’ camp in the town of Cuvier, delivering medicine and hygienic supplies, and assessing hurricane relief progress.” Read article
Dominican Sister of San Rafael Gloria Montanez, OP (author name: Gloria St. Joy), has written a children’s book called Addie’s One Wish to The Brightest Star. It is a fun and entertaining book about family and friends with family values of respect, love, and kindness woven through it which is suitable for children ages 5-9 years of age. It is available at Amazon.com.

Movie Review by Fr. Tom Condon, O.P.
One of the breakout hits of the summer of 2014 was Guardians of the Galaxy. It was a comic book superhero movie, but with a big difference. While most of those movies are very dark and serious, all about saving humanity, Guardians was goofy, funny, and didn’t take itself seriously. In addition, it had a fun 80’s soundtrack, including “Hooked on a Feeling,” which was heard frequently throughout the movie. Guardians was hardly a great movie, but at least for the first half, it was unexpectedly entertaining.
