Dominican Young Adults USA: ‘International Congress for the Mission of the Dominican Order’

From January 17th through the 21st, over 600 members of the Dominican Family from all over the world joined together to celebrate the 800th anniversary of the order, to reflect on the past and think towards the future mission of the order. The congress brought together people of all different walks of life, languages, cultures, ages, ideas and beliefs. All parts of the Dominican Family were present in order to discuss and reflect on the theme phrase “Sent to Preach the Gospel.” The conference aimed not to answer questions, but to create conversation and spark contemplation and to generate new questions about what mission means in the 21st century and for future focus and direction.

Dominican Young Adults: November Youth Preaching Weekend

1dya_nov-youth-preaching More events from the Dominican Youth Movement USA: This past weekend fifteen students from St. Agnes Academic HS, College Point; Albertus Magnus HS in Rockland County; and St. John the Baptist HS., West Islip came to St. John the Baptist HS to begin a weekend of prayer, study, and the forming of community. These students were the latest group who attended one of our youth preaching workshops. They learned how to bring to life their baptismal call to “preach the Good News” by using the gifts and talents that have been given to them by our loving God.

Dominican Sisters of Amityville – D.R.E.A.M. Big

As part of a new program called D.R.E.A.M. Big, St. Agnes Academic High School in College Point (a sponsored ministry of the Dominican Sisters of Amityville) and Molloy College in Rockville Centre are working together to pair students’ passions with a taste of college courses. D.R.E.A.M. Big is an acronym for “Dominican Roots in Education at St. Agnes and Molloy College.”

‘A Dream of Fire Inspires St. Mary’s Dominican High School Class of 2021’

In a visit to St. Mary’s Dominican High School, Sr. Maeve McMahon, O.P., a Cabra Dominican Sister, educator and author of, “A Dream of Fire: A Story about Dominic Guzman,” shared with the Eighth Grade Class her inspiration for the book. In “A Dream of Fire” Sr. Maeve tells the story about Dominic whose mother dreamed before his birth that he would set the world on fire with zeal for God’s Truth – Veritas. The book for young readers was launched in December 2015when the Dominican Order began its 800^th anniversary year.
