Dominican High Schools Preaching Conference 2017

July 5, 2017, Adrian, Michigan – Some 92 students from 24 Dominican high schools spent June 23-28 exploring their Dominican heritage and learning that the call of the Order of Preachers is to preach through their lives.

A collaboration of congregations of Dominican Sisters as well as the Dominican Friars, the 19th Annual Dominican High Schools Preaching Conference was hosted at Siena Heights University and the Motherhouse of the Dominican Sisters of Adrian. Students and their adult mentors came from California, New York, New Jersey, Ohio, Texas, Illinois, Wisconsin, Tennessee, Puerto Rico, and, for the first time, Australia to gather with their peers and form a community of young Dominican preachers.

Dominican Youth Movement, USA Forges Ahead as College “Preaching in Action” Conference Celebrates its 15th Year

During the week of May 23rd, thirty five students from Dominican Universities/ Colleges or colleges with a Dominican presence gathered at Molloy College, Rockville Centre, NY for the 15th National “Preaching in Action” Conference. The participating universities/colleges included Albertus Magnus College, CT; Aquinas College, MI; Barry University, FL; Caldwell University, NJ; Dominican College, NY; Dominican University, CA; Dominican University, IL; Edgewood College, WI; Molloy College, NY; Ohio Dominican University, OH; Siena Heights University, MI; St. Thomas Aquinas College, NY, and Xavier University, LA.

Dominican Volunteers USA 2017 Annual Celebration

Dominican Volunteers USA extends a heartfelt thank you to everyone who came out to support DVUSA at the 2017 annual celebration of Praedicare: Set the World on Fire on April 22. Current Dominican Volunteer Kayla Grodzicki eloquently reflected on her experience as a Dominican Volunteer serving at Sarah’s Inn and living in the House of Connections community in Chicago. Dominican Sisters, former volunteers, friends and family shared an enjoyable evening of music, dancing, fun, and fellowship. Dominican Young Adults USA: ‘It’s All About Collaboration and the Language of Love!’

For the past 4 years, employees and students from Dominican College in Blauvelt, New York and Molloy College in Rockville Centre, New York have travelled to El Salvador to assist Dominican Sister of Amityville, Flor de Maria Buruca, in running a faith based camp for the children in the small village of Sol Naciente. This year, January 2nd thru January 11th, 9 students and 4 employees once again had the privilege of participating in this life changing experience! Elizabeth Meittinis, a student from Molloy College and a member of Dominican Young Adult Molloy Chapter and the current Coordinator for Mission for DYA-USA was one of the students on the trip. Forty five children, ages 3 to 12, attended this camp. Some teenagers and adults from the community also participated as camp counselors and were a big help to all of us from the United States!!
