February 24, 2017, Miami Shores, Florida – Two Adrian Dominican Sisters – Peg Albert, OP, PhD, and Nancy Murray, OP – were among 10 to be honored as Distinguished Alumni of Barry University. The February 9 award luncheon, held at the Coral Gables Country Club, launched Barry’s Reunion Weekend.

On March 4 the Dominican Sisters of Caldwell greeted walkers who are participating in an 80 mile walk to “publicize opposition to the Pilgrim Pipelines and the Spectra-Aim Pipeline and to pray for water in solidarity with the Ramapough Lenape Nation and Standing Rock and to commemorate the March 11th anniversary of the Fukushima Nuclear disaster.” The walkers are being led by Buddhist monk Jun-san Yasuda, a nun of the Peace Pagoda and New Jersey Peace Action. March 2, 2017, Fremont, California, The Land Trust of Santa Cruz County and the Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose finalized an environmental easement to protect 173 acres of forested property west of Highway 17 at Laurel Curve. The easement represents the last parcel needed to connect bio-diverse habitat and protect motorists’ safety. Combined with two properties east of the highway protected by the Trust last year, the easement prohibits development in these areas in the Santa Cruz Mountains.
