Columbus, OH – Dominican Sisters of Peace Associate and Staff Member Yahaira Rose was honored as a Distinguished Hispanic Ohioan at a gala dinner on October 26, 2019. The Distinguished Hispanic Ohioan award is presented by the Ohio Latino Affairs Commission, whose goal is to advise the state government on matters affecting Hispanic Ohioans, to connect Latinx communities across the state, and to build the capacity of Latino community organizations across the state of Ohio.
November 22, 2019, Oakland, California – Sister Elisabeth Lang, OP, a Dominican Sister of Vietnam and an Adrian Dominican Associate, received a service award from Catholic Charities in the Diocese of Oakland, California, for her 44 years of ministry in the diocese’s refugee resettlement program. The award presentation took place during a tribute luncheon hosted by Catholic Charities East Bay, where Adrian Dominican Sister Marian Castelluccio, OP, also ministers. Columbus, OH – Dominican Sisters of Peace Director of Founded Ministries Mark Butler was honored by The Ohio Family and Children First Coordinators Association (OFCFCA) at a banquet on October 21. Mark was awarded the “Champion of Children Award” by the OFCFCA for his work to encourage the state of Ohio to establish the Multi-System Youth Fund within the State budget.
The Ohio Departments of Medicaid (ODM) and Job and Family Services (ODJFS) will issue $31 million in new funding in state fiscal year (SFY) 2020 to directly support children, youth and families served by multiple systems.
Louisville, KY – Dominican Sister of Peace Helen Cahill, OP, was honored with the Mary Emil Penet, IHM Award at a gala dinner during the 2019 Religious Formation Conference (RFC) National Congress on October 25, 2019. This award recognizes those who have made a significant contribution to formation ministry, honoring one who demonstrates a substantial commitment to and investment of energy and insight into the formative journey of religious sisters and brothers.
Sister Helen has been engaged in formation ministry for many years. She has shown a particular interest in the professional preparation and supervision of formators and in the area of ongoing formation, offering the RFC’s Orientation to Formation workshop at a number of times.
