Dominican Sisters of Sparkill Promote Rights of Immigrants and Workers at Local May Day Rally

On May 1, 2017, Dominican Sisters of Sparkill and friends “joined over 100 local residents for a rally in Nanuet, NY . . . in support of the rights of workers, immigrants and all people.” The May Day Rally was “organized by the Rockland Immigration Coalition and co-sponsored in part by the Sisters’ ministry One to One Learning, Inc.” Read article

Dominican Sister of Grand Rapids, Katrina Hartman, OP Honored with Dominican Spirit Award by Catholic Central High School

On April 25, 2017, Sister Katrina Hartman, OP was honored with the Dominican Spirit Award at Catholic Central High School. “Sister Katrina has dedicated her life to teaching science.” She was a chemistry teacher at Catholic Central High School and then a chemistry professor at Aquinas College for 30 years. April 27, 2017, Adrian, Michigan – History fans in Michigan are now familiar with Sister Ann Joachim Joachim, OP (1901-1981), a particularly colorful and prominent Adrian Dominican Sister, thanks to an article written by an Adrian Dominican Associate.

Arlene Bachanov’s article, “‘Sister Cannonball’: The Nun Who Shook Up Adrian,” was published in the May/June issue of Michigan History. The article details the amazing life of Sister Ann Joachim before and after she entered the Congregation and her influence on society.

The group – along with students from Siena Heights University in Adrian – were participating in the People’s Climate March on April 29.

Dominican Sister of Peace Kathleen Cannon, OP was Panelist for Discussion of Pioneering Women in Education

South Bend, IN – Notre Dame University celebrated Women’s History Month with a panel discussion and reception to recognize pioneering women faculty. The event featured five female faculty members who, according to Provost Tom Burish, have done pioneering work at the University.
