The 25th Annual Friends of St. Dominic Golf Tournament took place on August 28, 2017, at the Edgewood Country Club in River Vale, New Jersey. This sold-out event, sponsored by Mercedes Benz of Nanuet, was a resounding success on a day made to order.

Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose will welcome Kieu Tran as a candidate in a simple Entrance ceremony at the Motherhouse in Fremont on Saturday, August 26, 2017 during Evening Prayer surrounded by her family and Dominican Sisters. Kieu was born in Vietnam, spent about a year at a refugee camp in the Philippines with her family, and came to the U.S. at the age of one. She grew up as the middle child in a large family of seven children in Modesto, California. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Human Biology from the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). It was at the Newman Center at UCSD that she first met Dominican friars, and her experiences deepened and renewed her interest in religious life. After graduation she spent a year serving in campus ministry at UCSD, and she has worked in her home parish of Our Lady of Fatima during the past year. She states, “I look forward to God’s plan for me with an open and joyful heart.”
American Catholic Women Religious: Radicalized by Mission, a new book by Mission San Jose Dominican Sister Donna Maria Moses, is now available. The book depicts the significant role played by American Catholic Women Religious in the broader narratives of modern American history and the history of the Catholic Church. The book is a guide to fifty foreign missions founded by Dominican and Maryknoll Sisters in the twentieth century. Sister Donna Moses examines root causes for the radical political stances taken by American Catholic Women Religious in the latter half of the century and for the conservative backlash that followed. The book identifies key events that contributed to the present state of division within the American Catholic Church and describes current efforts to engage in dynamic dialogue. August 16, 2017, Adrian, Michigan – One of the focuses of ministry for many Adrian Dominican Sisters and Associates is advocating for social justice in a wide range of issues. Adrian Dominican Sisters from the United States had a special opportunity on August 2 to learn about the justice issues facing their Sisters in the Philippines, members of the Our Lady of Remedies Mission Chapter.
Sister Antonette Lumbang, OP – Justice Promoter for the Remedies Chapter – gave a presentation on three key justice issues that her nation faces, as well as the responses to those issues by the Sisters of the Remedies Chapter. Sisters Maria Socorro Garcia, OP, and Lourdes Pamintuan, OP also took part in the presentation.
