This week’s archives spotlight focuses not only on collaborative organizations but records that highlight different branches of the family. To begin, we will look at an organization whose own anniversary celebration is underway. This year marks the thirtieth anniversary of the Collaborative Dominican Novitiate. The Novitiate, established in 1988, provides the novices of seventeen congregations with the opportunity to experience Dominican community life, prayer, study, ministry, exposure to and practice of preaching skills, and personal growth. The novices are directly overseen by Co-Directors, who live with them in the novitiate house and are responsible for their formation during their ten month stay. The Collaborative Dominican Novitiate Records contain documents regarding the founding and management of the organization. These include: correspondence, minutes, handbooks, as well as newsletters, videos, photographs, and other various paraphernalia.

Over the past ten years, the McGreal Center has become home to twenty-one unique historical collections. The Center is blessed with many volunteers, interns, and graduate and undergraduate student workers who assist the archivist in preserving and making these collections accessible for researchers. From monastery archives to conference records to personal papers, the McGreal Center’s archives share the story of the Dominican Family in the United States from multiple perspectives, and through a variety of formats. Among its many unique collections, the Center holds the records for nearly all of the Family’s collaborative organizations in the United States. This article will focus on two of them: the Parable Conference for Dominican Life and Mission, and Las Casas: Dominicans in Ministry with Native Americans, Inc.

The McGreal Center’s 10th anniversary evokes so many gratifying memories. This article recalls one of the decade’s most enjoyable experiences –the In Our Keeping Conferences. The year 1984 marked the first In Our Keeping Conference (IOK) held at Sinsinawa. A variety of motherhouses hosted subsequent gatherings: Racine (1986 & 1988), Amityville (1991) Adrian (1994) Kentucky (1996). Columbus held the 2000 IOK, which appeared to be the last one. Yet with the establishment of the McGreal Center, this popular conference materialized again in 2008, 2010 and 2012. In those few years, the IOK Conference attracted Dominicans from all over the world – the Philippines, Norway, France, Argentina as well from 13 states.
