Milestone anniversaries call us to look both ways – backward at what we have experienced, and forward at what is still to come. This is exactly what happened at the Tenth Anniversary celebration of the Dominican Sisters of Peace and Associates, held July 26-28 in St. Louis, MO.

The Anniversary Event opened with a ceremony celebrating the coming together of eight congregations to form the congregation that is the Dominican Sisters of Peace. Eight leaves displayed on a tree were symbolic of the seed planted, growing together and of the growing works of the Congregation. The flowing water used by the Congregation at its founding in 2009 was featured in a procession of movement and joy. The opening address by Prioress Pat Twohill spoke of gratitude for all that has been accomplished in our ministries and our eagerness for the work to come.

SINSINAWA, Wis.—The Sinsinawa Dominican Congregation held their annual “Community Days” gathering at Sinsinawa Mound July 24–28. Once nearly 2,000 Sisters in the mid-1960s, the congregation currently numbers 383 Sisters, and more than half live at Sinsinawa. Sisters continue to serve in 16 states and in Bolivia and Trinidad and Tobago. Due to their changing demographics, as well as changing demographics in the tri-state area, the Sisters are facing significant issues. During their annual gathering, the Sisters identified steps they need to take to respond.

July 16, 2019, Laredo, Texas – Two Adrian Dominican Sisters have spent weeks on the border of the United States and Mexico this summer, volunteering their services to migrant families who come to La Frontera Migrant Shelter in Laredo, Texas.

Sisters Patricia Erickson, OP, and Sharon Spanbauer, OP – along with other Adrian Dominican Sisters – have been serving at the shelter at the invitation and encouragement of the General Council of the Adrian Dominican Sisters, as well as the invitation of the Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR). Sister Sharon served at La Frontera from May 31, 2019, through June 22, 2019. Sister Pat arrived at the shelter on June 23, 2019, and will serve through July 20, 2019. Sisters have also volunteered their time at similar hospitality houses in El Paso and McAllen, Texas.
