Faith and Film: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

One of the breakout hits of the summer of 2014 was Guardians of the Galaxy. It was a comic book superhero movie, but with a big difference. While most of those movies are very dark and serious, all about saving humanity, Guardians was goofy, funny, and didn’t take itself seriously. In addition, it had a fun 80’s soundtrack, including “Hooked on a Feeling,” which was heard frequently throughout the movie. Guardians was hardly a great movie, but at least for the first half, it was unexpectedly entertaining.

Dominican Sisters of Springfield Welcomed Twenty-eight New Associates

On May 7, 2017, the Dominican Sisters of Springfield welcomed 28 new associates. “The associate class included residents of Springfield, Bluffs, Auburn, Flossmoor, Jacksonville, Illiopolis, Galesburg, Pana, Steger, Lansing, Normal, Park Forest, Chicago Heights, South Holland, Orland Park, and Bloomington, Ill., Indiana residents of Munster and Hammond, and Mississippi residents of the Jackson area.” Read article

‘Joseph Cardinal Tobin Visits the Caldwell Dominicans’

On May 6th, with Scripture focusing on the Good Shepherd, recently installed Joseph Cardinal Tobin was welcomed at the Caldwell Motherhouse to celebrate Mass and meet our sisters and associates over dinner. Sister Patrice Werner, Prioress, presented Cardinal Tobin with a print of our stained glass Stations of the Cross designed by Sister Gerardine Mueller. After spending time at the Motherhouse, Cardinal Tobin joined Sister Patrice, the rest of the Leadership Team, and the residents of St. Catherine’s Convent and Healthcare Center for dessert. Cardinal Tobin went from table to table speaking with the sisters and a few of the archdiocesan priests who reside at St. Catherine’s.

Columbus, OH – “Honey, are you hungry?” These words are often heard by a teenage girl on the streets of Columbus, OH. She is dirty and hungry, and despite the fact that she will be with as many as 10 men today, she is alone and unloved. But to Sister Nadine Buchanan, OP, this girl is an angel in disguise – and those simple words open a door to hope and love.
