During the Dominican Institute for the Arts (DIA) 19th Annual gathering from July 26-31, 2016, Sr. Elizabeth Slenker, O.P. was presented the Fra Angelico Award. The award is given to “members who exemplify the dedication of famous Dominican Friar and artist, Fra Angelico, to furthering the Holy Preaching through art.” Read article and view photos
Racine, WI (July 26, 2016) – Celebrating 800 years and the Spirit flowing, Dominican artists assembled July 26-31 at the Siena Retreat Center, Racine, Wisconsin for the Annual Gathering of the Dominican Institute for the Arts.

(July 16-21, Toulouse, France) They came on pilgrimage to the place where St. Dominic lived and ministered. They wanted to walk along the same paths that Dominic walked.
From as far away as Korea, The Philippines, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Spain, Portugal, Croatia, Trinidad and Tobago, Chile, Ecuador, Peru, Argentina, Ivory Coast, Guatemala, Paraguay, Venezuela, Italy, Brazil, Haiti, Dominican Republic, Columbia and the United States, Dominican Young Adults, friars, sisters and laity gathered for the 12th International Meeting. The theme of this year’s meeting was “Young Dominicans sent to preach the Gospel.”

The artistic works of Dominican Sister of Hope, Sister Mary Ellen Wisner, OP will be on display at the Mariandale Retreat and Conference Center through September, 16, 2016. A Life in Colors features the mixed media work of this Dominican Sister of Hope who taught art for many years. In retirement she has been able to devote more time to her own work. S. Mary Ellen works in oils, water colors, and stained glass.
