As part of their course at Molloy College called “Spiritual Autobiography,” students visited the Queen of the Rosary Motherhouse in Amityville on November 5, 2018 to interview and hear all about the lives of some of our Sisters. Lauren Czarnecki, 20, loved talking to S. Mary Ryan who was a teacher and principal. “She told me that many people think that when great things happen to them, it’s luck. But it’s really God’s plan for us. I never took that into consideration before,” said Czarnecki, who is majoring in childhood special education.

Dominican Young Adults: November Youth Preaching Weekend

Sixteen students from St. Agnes Academic HS, College Point; and Good Shepherd Parish Youth Group in Holbrook came to St. John the Baptist HS retreat Center to begin a weekend of prayer, study, and the forming of community. These students were the latest group who attended one of our youth preaching workshops. They learned how to bring to life their baptismal call to “preach the Good News” by using the gifts and talents that have been given to them by our loving God.

With Redwood City’s proximity to numerous national and state parks, mountains, coasts, and forests, you can drive an hour in practically any direction and find a new park to explore. Equipped with a water backpack and hiking boots, I find myself more and more frequently escaping the hubbub of the city for solace.”

Dominican Volunteers USA: ‘Communities, Both Big and Small’

Our latest blog post comes from Dominican Volunteer Jake Moran. Jake serves at Sarah’s Inn, a support center for survivors of domestic violence in Chicago, Illinois. Jake reflects on his communities both near and far. This includes his House of Connections community, shared with fellow DV Lacey Green and Dominican Sisters Marilyn Derr and Bernadine Karge. August 30, 2018, Adrian, Michigan – When students begin the academic year at Dominican high schools, some will have much to say about the Dominican heritage. More than 100 students representing 19 schools left the 20th Annual Dominican High Schools Preaching Conference in Adrian with a greater understanding of the Order of Preachers – and with specific action plans for expanding their classmates’ awareness of the Dominican family and spirituality.
