On November 16, 2016, the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill welcomed two new Associates to their congregation at a commitment ceremony in New York. The new Associates, Diane Dunne and Margaret Hayes, each made one-year commitments with the Dominican Sisters. Read article
On October 30, 2016, Sr. Patrica Twohill, Prioress of the Dominican Sisters of Peace, received an Outstanding Recognition Award at the 2016 Convocation of the National Religious Vocation Conference (NRVC) in Overland Park, KS. The award recognizes Pat for her “outstanding leadership, service and dedication to vocation ministry” for a total of 16 years. Read article

More events from the Dominican Youth Movement USA: This past weekend fifteen students from St. Agnes Academic HS, College Point; Albertus Magnus HS in Rockland County; and St. John the Baptist HS., West Islip came to St. John the Baptist HS to begin a weekend of prayer, study, and the forming of community. These students were the latest group who attended one of our youth preaching workshops. They learned how to bring to life their baptismal call to “preach the Good News” by using the gifts and talents that have been given to them by our loving God.

A new tradition has begun at our Motherhouse. The vespers service for the month of November is now in the capable hands of our Molloy Chapter of Dominican Young Adults USA.

The Dominican Sisters of Blauvelt gathered with the local community to stand in solidarity with the North Dakota Standing Rock Water Protectors to stop the Dakota Access Pipeline on Sunday, November 20 at Nyack Memorial Park.
Blauvelt Dominican Sister Ceil Lavan commented, “Having so many join us in our water ritual in solidarity with the Standing Rock Water Protectors warmed my heart on a cold day. The depth of the commitment of the people gathered to stand with the Dakota Sioux against the Dakota Access Pipeline and as New Yorkers against the Spectra AIM and the Pilgrim Pipelines is inspiring and gives me hope.”
