Catholic News Service recently interviewed Sister Gabriella Williams, OP, whose work with migrant and immigrant workers in San Bernardino, California, earned her the 2011 Lumen Christi Award from the Catholic Extension. “We are all God’s people, brothers and sisters. I support whoever I can because we are part of a big family, and all that we do must be centered on God. The Ethics Program of Villanova University seeks applicants for a Catherine of Siena Teaching Fellowship. Responsibilities include a 3/3 load teaching the sophomore/junior level core ethics course, research, plus committee work for the program. A Ph.D. is preferred. The position is for one year, renewable up to three years. Candidates should have either an expertise in Christian ethics, with a competency to teach Western philosophical ethics, or an expertise in Western philosophical ethics and a competency to teach Christian ethics. Adrian Dominican Sister Corinne Florek, OP, has been invited to the White House to take part in the Sept. 22 White House Symposium on Promoting Economic Recovery and Job Creation through Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships. Starting small and “making it fun,” Sister Claire McGowan, OP (Peace) has initiated some big changes by promoting environmental sustainability in her small town of Springfield, Kentucky. On July 24, about 100 members of the public joined representatives of the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill, Town of Saugerties and Esopus Creek Conservancy (ECC) and Scenic Hudson at a ribbon cutting to mark the opening of Falling Waters Preserve. Scenic Hudson reached an agreement with the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill to conserve the property and permit public access for five years.
