Dominican Sisters of Blauvelt: National Catholic Sisters Week Recognized with a Proclamation from Orangetown

At the beginning of National Catholic Sisters Week, the two Dominican Congregations of Women Religious in Rockland County, the Sisters of Saint Dominic of Blauvelt, New York and the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill were recognized along with other religious communities in a Proclamation from the Town of Orangetown Supervisor, Chris Day.

This Proclamation formally deems March 8-14 as National Catholic Sisters Week in Orangetown and recognizes the Sisters of these congregations for their impact on society.

With deep gratitude for a blessed Chapter experience, the Dominican Sisters ~ Grand Rapids announce our incoming Leadership Team.

Sandra Delgado, OP will serve as the new Prioress of the Congregation. Joan Williams, OP becomes the new Vicaress, Maureen Geary, OP and Megan McElroy, OP will both serve as Councilors.

Dominican Sisters of Racine Elect New Leadership

On Friday, March 2, the Racine Dominicans concluded their Chapter process by electing a new executive committee to lead the congregation for the next four years. The new executives, who will take office on July 1, include Maryann McMahon, OP, president; Kathy Slesar, OP, and Lisa Kane, OP, who will serve as vice presidents.

‘Dominican Sisters of Peace Promote Gun Safety, Sensible Gun Control’

Columbus, OH – The Dominican Sisters of Peace sponsor primary and secondary schools in Ohio, New York, Louisiana, and Tennessee. It is our goal at each of these schools to provide not just an outstanding education, but a solid grounding in our Catholic faith and in the four pillars of our Dominican life: prayer, study, community, and service.

Following the tragic shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High, our Congregation responded to support the efforts of student activists by encouraging our own schools to honor the lives lost and to encourage Congress to enact laws to ensure gun safety. The Social Justice team created a guide to help schools plan and publicize events at each location. The Congregation also shared this guide with other Dominican congregations across the country.

‘Dominican Sisters of Peace Name New Justice Promoter’

Columbus, OH – The Dominican Sisters of Peace have named a new Justice Promoter, Sr. Barbara Kane, OP.

In her new position, Sr. Barb will promote Justice, Peace, and the Integrity of Creation (JCIP) through education, advocacy and social action. One of her first major projects will be working with Sisters and Associates to organize a congregational presence at the March 24 ‘March for Our Lives,’ a student-led demonstration to urge sensible gun control.
