New book tells story of sisters’ 1960s education ministry

A recent article in the National Catholic Reporter (“Small school with great expectations: Catholic sisters at work”) focuses on the inspiration and influence of two Sinsinawa Dominican sisters (Patricia Caraher, OP, and Marilyn Aiello, OP) who taught at a small, segregated Catholic high school for blacks in Mobile, Alabama, in the mid-1960s. A new book, “From the Back of the Pews to the Head of the Class,” features interviews of graduates and faculty from this school. Read NCR article

Sister Catherine Stewart, OP (Springfield) has recently published a new book on the saints through Twenty-Third Publications, in their Learning Centers format. The book is intended for use with elementary students in religious education and includes interactive activities to teach children about the lives of the saints.
Fr. Andrew Carl Wisdom, OP, and Sister Christine Kiley, ASCJ, have published a new book that draws from their experiences with real life discerners. The book offers reflections and activities that provide direction and inspire greater peace during the process of discerning a life choice. They first describe the Church’s invitation to make a generous gift of self to God through married life, an intentional single life, priesthood, or religious life. The reflections are arranged by the common stages of discernment journeys and are designed to help the reader move from creating and cultivating a vocational interest to a decision to follow or abandon that interest.
