Dominican Sisters of Springfield Welcome 29 New Associates
On May 15, 2016, the Dominican Sisters of Springfield welcomed 29 new associates. “One of the largest associate classes in recent years, the group included residents from seven Illinois communities and, for the first time ever, ten new associates that hail from Columbia, Missouri. They made their commitment after completing a 9-month course in the history, spirituality, and mission of the Dominicans.”

“The Dominican Sisters of Blauvelt congratulate Sr. Thobile Gumede who was awarded the MA in Counseling Psychology by Felician University at their Commencement Exercises on May 14th. Several of our sisters were present at the ceremony and at the Baccalaureate Mass on May 13th. Sr. Thobile, a Dominican sister from Montebello, South Africa, received her baccalaureate degree from Dominican College in 2015 while living with us at our motherhouse in Blauvelt. This year she lived with the Felician Sisters in Lodi, NJ. Sr. Thobile will return to her congregation in South Africa next month.”
The Maryknoll Sisters in Zimbabwe are proud and happy to announce that a community library in Mabvuku, an urban township on the outskirts of Harare, has been named after Maryknoll Sister, Sr. Kathleen Barbee M.M. This honor is due to Sister Kathleen’s amazing mission work, she is a teacher and the majority of her students are HIV/AIDS orphans. She not only teaches this group of kids, but motivates them to remain in school after their parents have died.
