Racine, WI (July 26, 2016) – Celebrating 800 years and the Spirit flowing, Dominican artists assembled July 26-31 at the Siena Retreat Center, Racine, Wisconsin for the Annual Gathering of the Dominican Institute for the Arts.

(July 16-21, Toulouse, France) They came on pilgrimage to the place where St. Dominic lived and ministered. They wanted to walk along the same paths that Dominic walked.
From as far away as Korea, The Philippines, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Spain, Portugal, Croatia, Trinidad and Tobago, Chile, Ecuador, Peru, Argentina, Ivory Coast, Guatemala, Paraguay, Venezuela, Italy, Brazil, Haiti, Dominican Republic, Columbia and the United States, Dominican Young Adults, friars, sisters and laity gathered for the 12th International Meeting. The theme of this year’s meeting was “Young Dominicans sent to preach the Gospel.”

The artistic works of Dominican Sister of Hope, Sister Mary Ellen Wisner, OP will be on display at the Mariandale Retreat and Conference Center through September, 16, 2016. A Life in Colors features the mixed media work of this Dominican Sister of Hope who taught art for many years. In retirement she has been able to devote more time to her own work. S. Mary Ellen works in oils, water colors, and stained glass.

Sister Cecilia Canales, OP is New Congregational Prioress
The Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose elected Sister Cecilia Canales, OP as their new Congregational Prioress during the congregation’s 25th General Chapter. Sister Cecilia will assume leadership in the fall, replacing Sister Gloria Marie Jones, OP who completes her tenure in the post.
Convened every five years at their congregational center in Fremont, the chapter assembly elects new leaders and identifies mission priorities. The weeklong “Pilgrimage of the Heart” held July 23 – 30, 2016, included over 150 sister delegates and participants from the US and Mexico. Group discussions considered some challenges both countries face. The Sisters asked, “What is our mission in these times?” Their response, “Be women of hope in the face of violence and build bridges of love and understanding between our countries.”

August 4, 2016, Adrian, Michigan – Members of the public are cordially invited to the dedication of the Adrian Dominican Sisters’ Dominican Life Center (DLC) Reflective Garden.
The ceremony begins at 5:00 p.m. Thursday, August 25, in the Reflective Garden, accessible through the main doors of the DLC. Following the dedication, guests are encouraged to enjoy refreshments and tour the garden.
