Dominican Sisters of Caldwell Present 2016 Peace Award
The Sisters of Saint Dominic of Caldwell honored Dr. James P. Morgan of Montclair, New Jersey, during a Vesper Prayer Service on June 3rd, the Feast of the Sacred Heart, in the Motherhouse Chapel, Caldwell, New Jersey. Dr. Morgan is the recipient of the 2016 Dominican Sisters of Caldwell Peace Award, recognizing his charitable commitment to the poorest of the poor over the span of his professional career as a medical physician.
His citation describes Dr. Morgan as a compassionate physician, an advocate for the poor, a promoter of justice and empowerment of Haitian people, and founder of Lamp for Haiti. Sr. Patrice Werner, OP, Prioress, welcomed the Congregation and spoke of the significance of the Peace Award and the Community’s gratitude for his years of service to our sisters as their physician in St. Catherine Health Care Center.
Sr. Eileen Ivory, OP, Councilor, preached on Catherine of Siena, her significance in our Dominican Order as we celebrate 800 years and her love and action in response to human needs. In accepting his award, Dr. Morgan alluded to his models, Mother Theresa and Pope Francis, whose lives inspire his initiatives and outreach to the needy. Support for his work continues from family, friends and a myriad of persons who share his resolve to provide opportunities to the Haitian community. The Vesper Service ended with the Dominican Jubilee hymn, Laudare, Benedicere, Predicare. A light supper followed in the Refectory of the Motherhouse.
