Amityville Dominicans Congregation celebrates transfer of leadership June 23
The Dominican Sisters of Amityville, New York elected a new Leadership Council March 9–10 during their congregation’s general chapter. This newly elected group will assume leadership of the congregation’s 466 members on June 23. Elected to the role of prioress was Sister Mary Patricia Neylon, OP. Sister Mary Patricia is an associate professor in the humanities department at Molloy College in Rockville Centre, New York, where she has worked for 28 years.
The role of assistant prioress and first councilor will be filled by Sister Patricia Anne Hanvey, OP. Sister Patricia Anne is currently the Life Skills Coordinator/Advocate in Prison for Hour Children, Inc. a residence that mentors women on their transition after incarceration.
The other members of the new team are:
- Sister Margaret Ann McVetty, OP, currently a social worker at St. John the Baptist High School in West Islip, New York;
- Sister Marguerite Warren, OP, currently a math teacher at Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School in Brooklyn, New York;
- Sister Patricia Marie Koehler, OP, supervisor at Nassau BOCES, New York;
- Sister Antoinette De Aveiro, OP, assistant superintendent of the Elementary Schools for the Diocese of Rockville Centre, New York.
