Nuclear weapons are roadblock to global peace and security
The United Nations Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, has called for U.N. member states and civil society to re-affirm commitments to nuclear disarmament, and to ensure that this common end is reflected in national budgets, plans and institutions. An op-ed article written by the Secretary-General stresses the absolute necessity of disarmament. He states that “massive military spending and new investments in modernizing nuclear weapons have left the world over-armed—and peace under-funded.”
