Pope Francis’ encyclical, Laudato Si’ calls for a renewed exploration of what it means to be human in relationship to a suffering planet. In this Theological Institute, we will explore what the Earth, Laudato Si’, and our Dominican tradition might be asking of us. In our days together, we will take an ecological look at key passages in the Bible, explore cosmocentric perspectives on Sacraments, Prayer, and Preaching, and ask ourselves how our Dominican charisms (personal and communal) call us to respond to an “Integral Ecology.”

Linda, a Dominican Sister of Houston, is the Associate Academic Dean of the Oblate School of Theology in San Antonio. She also lectures and gives workshops on the significance of recent scientific discoveries for Catholic theology and spirituality. Her book, From the Beginning to Baptism: Scientific and Sacred Stories of Water, Oil, and Fire was published in 2010 by Liturgical Press.

Dominican Sisters of Sparkill: ‘Haiti Mission Team Departs for 2017 Trip’

On May 25, 2017, Sparkill’s Haiti Mission Team (two Dominican Sisters of Sparkill, one Dominican Sister of Caldwell, and a friend) departed for their 2017 trip to Haiti. During this trip, the team will be “checking the status of [their] building projects and water wells, training local community leaders who will run this summer’s kids’ camp in the town of Cuvier, delivering medicine and hygienic supplies, and assessing hurricane relief progress.” Read article

Dominican Sister of San Rafael Gloria Montanez, O.P.’s Children’s Book Published

Dominican Sister of San Rafael Gloria Montanez, OP (author name: Gloria St. Joy), has written a children’s book called Addie’s One Wish to The Brightest Star. It is a fun and entertaining book about family and friends with family values of respect, love, and kindness woven through it which is suitable for children ages 5-9 years of age.
