February 5, 2016, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic – In the midst of Santo Domingo, the bustling capital of the Dominican Republic, women in discernment, women in formation, and Adrian Dominican Sisters and Associates, and all who seek God can find a haven of peace, community, discernment, and reflection. That place is Convento Santa Catalina, the Congregation’s new house of discernment and formation in the Dominican Republic.
The 100-year-old renovated house was officially blessed and dedicated on January 29 and 30, beginning with a special blessing of the rooms and entryways. Sister Attracta Kelly, OP, Prioress of the Congregation, also installed a relic of 14th-century Dominican mystic, St. Catherine of Siena – for whom the house was named – into a special reliquary in the house’s chapel, or oratorio.
SINSINAWA, Wis.—The annual Mass to commemorate the death of Venerable Samuel Mazzuchelli, O.P., will be held at St. Patrick Church, Benton, Wis., at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, February 28, 2016. The Mazzuchelli Assembly 4th Degree Knights of Columbus invite everyone to attend and join them for a social in the parish hall afterward. Father Mazzuchelli died in the house near the church February 23, 1864, and is buried in the parish cemetery. The house is open for tours during warm-weather months.
Father Mazzuchelli began his ministry in the 1830s with Native Peoples of the upper Midwest, providing education and attempting to right the injustices they faced. Later he traveled farther west to serve the new immigrants while founding parish communities, building schools and churches, serving in civic as well as religious affairs, and establishing the congregation of Dominican Sisters of Sinsinawa who continue his mission of Gospel service. This is the 152nd anniversary of Father Mazzuchelli’s death.

Deep Time and the forever unfolding future are present, as is the fundamental grasp that all things are bound together. What will become the one Earth Community is present as are the undergirding framework of Kenosis and the call to faithfully fulfill the tasks of one’s own life and time.
