Dominicans Around the Globe Join Prayers for
Peace
ROME, Italy. September 21, 2006--- Over 400 people participated in a
march through the streets of Rome on September 21st, joining thousands
of people around the world in a day of prayer for Peace. Dominican Justice
Promoters organized the march as a response to Master General, bro.
Carlos Azpiroz-Costa's call for Dominicans to Wrap the World

DLC Membership Grapples with Issues
of Future Dominican Life

WI, September 22-26, 2006 -- What do Dominicans need to do to sustain
the fire and passion of Dominican Life into the future? This is one
of the largest and most intriguing questions for Dominicans in the US.
Members of the Dominican Leadership Conference, affiliate organizations
and guests took on some of the complex questions of how to sustain the
emerging energies of Dominican Life in the future at the 55th Annual

the Dominican Leadership Conference celebrated a person many Dominicans
consider a national treasure. Sr. Nona McGreal, OP (Sinsinawa) was honored
for her extraordinary service to the Dominican Family. Sr. Nona, former
director of Project OPUS, was honored by the DLC for her incalcuable

Dorothy Briggs, OP
Founder of For Whom the Bell Tolls
ST.
CATHERINE, KY -- Sister Dorothy Briggs, OP, (Kentucky), the founding
force behind For Whom The Bells Toll, died
September 12, 2006 at the Motherhouse. For Whom the Bell
Tolls (FWBT) begame a national initiative of religious
organizations who toll their bells whenever there is an execution. The
project begun in her kitchen with postage stamps from the congregation,
is now organized by CURE.

New Religious Community Founded to Evangelize

OAKLAND, CA -- A new community, whose ministry is not only to deaf people,
but whose members are also deaf, is being created in California. A recent

Joliet featured biblical scholar, Dominican Sister Barbara Reid.(Grand
Rapid) Her research on the interpretation of Christ’s crucifixion
in the modern world suggests the potential for misunderstanding.
