Master General Calls on Dominican Family to
Pray Together on September 21st
SANTA SABINA, August 16, 2006---The Master of the Order, fr. Carlos
Aspiros Costa, OP has invited all Dominican friars, sisters, nuns,
laity, associates and friends to join together in private and public
prayer for peace on September 21st, 2006.
Citing the recent escalation of violence and death in the Middle East
and with continuing concern for the people of Iraq, bro. Carlos said,
" It is an uncertain and critical time, one which calls us to
deepen our faith in a God of peace and in hope that peace will return
to the region and to other troubled areas of our world."
Wrap the World In Prayer for Peace
is an invitation for Dominicans around the globe to be in solidarity
with each other and especially with the Dominican Family in Iraq and
the Middle East who have suffered untold fear, distress and terror.
September 21st was selected because it is already a world-wide day
of prayer for peace established by the United Nations. Dominican justice
promoters around the world will coordinate and encourage Dominicans
to engage in public prayer and community prayers on that day.
In the United States, the Iraq Coordinating Committee, including the
North American Co-Promoters of Justice, Dusty Farnan, OP (Adrian)
and Philippe Leblanc, OP (Canada) has been preparing materials for
distribution through the justice promoters in each congregation and
province.
The International Commission is encouraging Dominicans to engage in
public acts of prayer, processions, vigils and other ways to invite
others to join in the prayer. Motherhouse communities are also encouraged
to participate in what ever way seems appropriate. |
