Local Government Declares Day of Peace
San Rafael Dominicans Put Peace Ads in Local Theaters
MARIN COUNTY, CA.-- September 21, 2006 --Between
screenings of Pirates of the Caribbean, Part 2 and Hollywoodland
at the NorthGate Mall in San Rafael, the Dominicans Sisters
promoted peace through a series of cinema advertisements.
Peace: Because Good Planets are Hard to Find (a message
from the Dominican Sisters of San Rafael) was shown 2,000 times
from September 22 to October 2nd.
This was only part of their participation in the International Day
of Prayer for Peace, September 21st.
At the opening of the third public observance of the International
Day of Peace, held in front of the Dominican Sisters of San Rafael
Center, Sister Susannah Malarkey, OP read a resolution from the
Marin County Board of Supervisors, declaring September
21 a day of peace. Sister Marion Irvine, the congregation's Justice
Promoter had accepted the resolution at a Board meeting earlier
in the week.
A prayer service was attended by Sisters, staff, University students,
Western region Justice promoters, local friends, and the kindergarten
class of St. Raphael School.
