Springfield Dominicans The hallways of Sacred Heart Convent echoed with laughter as Dominican Faith Camp got underway. The annual summer event was a three-day retreat in which girls in elementary and middle school enjoyed fellowship with each other, visited and prayed with the sisters, explored their faith and learned more about the Dominican charism. More than 100 registered participants, as well as local Adrian Dominicans who watched broadcasts of the talks, gathered for a special conference, “Being Dominican in the 21st Century,” July 8-11 at Weber Retreat and Conference Center in Adrian, Michigan. The celebration included a Mass, reception, and tours on the grounds of the Dominican Sisters of Peace Motherhouse in St. Catharine. Dominican Sisters of Hope The Dominican Sisters of Hope (Ossining, New York) have sold their 13.1 acre property in Newburgh to Mount Saint Mary College. The Dominican Sisters, who retain an easement to access a private cemetery on the property, spent 128 years at this site. “Our mission of education began here in Newburgh, when four Sisters of Saint Dominic traveled from New York City in 1883 to establish Mount Saint Mary Academy,” recalls Sister Lorelle Elcock, OP, prioress of the Dominican Sisters of Hope.
