Blauvelt Dominicans The Dominican Sisters of Blauvelt gathered Feb. 18-21 for their Chapter of Life and Mission, with the theme “Celebrating Grace: Our Lives Today and Tomorrow,” to chart the course of the congregation for the next six years. The chapter opened with a prayer service and a reflection on the themes of grace, impasse and hope. READ MORE Aquinas Institute honors women The Aquinas Institute of Theology in St. Louis has selected five women who exemplify the pillars central to Dominican spirituality (preaching, prayer, study and community) for induction into its St. Rose of Lima Society. Tacoma Dominicans The Sisters of St. Dominic of Tacoma recently re-elected Sisters Sharon Casey and elected Sisters Ann Marie Lustig, Anna Murphy and Maureen O’Brien to its Leadership Team. The Chapter expressed deep gratitude to Sisters Patricia Beattie and Mary Patricia Murphy for their years of Congregational leadership. Sister Mary Huges, OP, prioress, welcomed more than 300 Amityville Dominican sisters and associates, including four sisters from Puerto Rico. READ MORE Religious Education Sister Joan Mary Finn, OP (Amityville) was featured in a recent article on Patheos.com titled “The Related Unknown: Increasing Vocabulary for Deaf Children.” Sister Joan Mary was described as “an inventive and enthusiastic educator” who has worked with the hearing impaired for 40 years. READ MORE Ministry in the News Sisters and college students in Flint, Michigan, are working together to build a nonprofit ministry to help unemployed women. Sister Carol Weber, OP, is director of St. Luke's NEW Life Center in Flint. “Our mission was to help at-risk women become self-sustainable by helping them find jobs, but then the bottom fell out of the economy,” she said in a recent article in the Flint Journal. “In order to be true to our mission, we felt we needed to start a small business to give them jobs.” READ MORE Sister in the News Dominican Sister Sue Tracy (Grand Rapids) was featured in a recent story titled “Experts agree that laughter, humor speed up healing,” published in the Feb. 28 edition of the Grand Rapids Press and posted on MLive.com.
