Dominican Sisters Conference Dominican sisters and associates have donated wonderful gifts for the raffle that will take place during the month of May. Proceeds from the fundraiser support the mission of the Dominican Sisters Conference. Download brochure Caldwell Dominicans In text messaging parlance, “YNT” means “Why Not?” So, on a sunny day in March, 240 girls in Grade 11 at four Dominican high schools arrived on the campus of Caldwell College to consider the question “YNT?” The Dominican Sisters asked “YNT” in the framework of God’s call to join Dominican life and mission: “Why Not YOU be a woman called by God to become a Dominican Sister?” Read more Puerto Rico Sister Gina Fleming, OP (Amityville), co-director of the National College Preaching Conference, recently returned from a trip to Puerto Rico and was impressed by the energy and enthusiasm modeled by the students at the Collegio San Antonio in Isabella. The students were eager to learn more about Dominican programs, and took steps to initiate the first chapter of Dominican Young Adults in Puerto Rico. Read more Interfaith Award The prestigious Norman A. Stack Community Relations Award will be presented to Fr. Richard Peddicord, OP, president of Aquinas Institute of Theology, and to Sister Carla Mae Streeter, OP, longtime Aquinas faculty member, at the Jewish Community Relations Council annual meeting May 25 in St. Louis, Missouri. This award was established in 1989 to honor leaders of the St. Louis community who have made significant contributions to interfaith understanding, intergroup relations, and social justice. Read more Dominican Alliance The Eco-Justice Committee of the Dominican Alliance met at Heartland Farm and the Dominican Sisters of Great Bend motherhouse in Kansas March 17-20. Ten committee members were present, representing the Dominican Sisters of Houston, Springfield, Peace, and Racine. Participants stayed at Heartland Farm, in Pawnee Rock, holding the business meeting in the farm's strawbale arts building, praying in the converted silo, and enjoying home-cooked meals and a tour of the farm. Read more Canada On March 28, in a setting of awesome natural beauty, on a high plateau above the Squamish River Valley, Archbishop J. Michael Miller, CSB, and friends of Queen of Peace Monastery community gathered to break ground for a new monastery in the Archdiocese of Vancouver. Sister Mary Thomas, OP, prioress of the Monastery of the Blessed Sacrament, came from Farmington Hills, Michigan, the Dominican monastery that sponsored the new foundation in Western Canada over its first 10 years. Read more Faith and Film “The Grace Card” is one of a new breed of Christian movies. Encouraged by the popularity of the 2008 film “Fireproof,” a steady stream of movies aimed at Christian audiences has emerged. “The Grace Card” was filmed in Memphis, Tennessee, with some local churches taking an active part in funding the movie.
