Join Wrap the World in Prayer Campaign
September
24, 2007 -- From New York to California, Dominicans across the US gathered
in groups large and small to participate in the annual ritual sponsored
by the United Nations. The International Day of Peace, is a world wide
project of the Dominican Order. Some learned how to create oragami peace
doves, some placed ads in local theaters, others created public rituals
of prayer. The underlying goal was to wrap the world in prayer and stand
in solidarity with peacemakers everywhere. READ

From Bell Ringing in New York to Battle Scarred Afghanistan,
United Nations
Marks Peace Day
21 September – From
the ritual ringing of a bell at its Headquarters in New York to the furthest
flung trenches of warfare across the world, where a record number of more
than 100,000 peacekeepers are struggling to restore stability, the United
Nations today marked the annual International Day of Peace with

Akron Dominican to be Honored
$7.31 million in Gifts Make Possible Our Lady of the Elms Growth Project
AKRON
-- September 24, 2007--- Our Lady of the Elms School started work on a
$7.31 million renovation and expansion, including a performing arts center
and a new gym. The school is sponsored by the Dominican Sisters of Akron,
OH. The new buildings will be named after the late Libby Schaeffer, OP
(Akron) former Executive Director of the Dominican Leadership Conference
and prioress of the Akron Dominican Sisters. READ

Dominicans Honor Kris Kristofferson with
Shining Star Award
NORTH
HOLLYWOOD – Golden Globe and Grammy Award recipient Kris Kristofferson
received the first Shining Star Award along with two other honorees,
at an awards dinner held Sunday, September 16, at the Beverly Garland
Hotel. The award was bestowed on the singer, songwriter
and actor for Shipwrecked in the 80s, his composition featured
a new documentary: Not Broken. MORE
Catherine of Siena Work Now Available in Braille
RACINE, WI September 24, 2007-- Over the past several years, thanks
to some generous Catherine of Siena enthusiasts, the works of Catherine
in English have been gradually transcribed into Braille. So far the Dialogue, Prayers,
and one volume of the Letters have appeared, and just now Suzanne
Nofke's Catherine
of Siena: Vision through a Distant Eye.

Truth and Consequences

FOREST, IL - September 24,, 2007 -What is the nature of truth?
What are the consequences of telling or withholding, or failing to seek
the truth? In public debates, truth is sometimes seen as entirely subjective
and socially constructed. Dominican
University's fall series will explore philosophical and theological implications
of truth, and consider consequences in light of contemporary issues.
