IRAQ

As war rages in Iraq, we are especially concerned for our sisters and brothers and for all the people of Iraq. We advocate for the people as thy struggle to live through insecurity, fear, and a humanitarian nightmare. Our goal is to keep the experiences of life in Iraq which we know from our Dominican Family, in front of the governments and the UN secretariat in whatever ways are possible.

The involvement of the United Nations is somewhat limited at this time in history. Certainly organizations like UNIFEM and UNICEF are involved, but the fact that the United States invaded Iraq in direct violation of the United Nations Security Council recommendations has made the role of the UN complicated and marginal.

NGO WORKING GROUP ON IRAQ

The NGO Working Group on Iraq is composed of NGOs who come together in order to establish and build a relationship with members of the Security Council and with agencies within the UN System for the purpose of information sharing and advocacy related to the humanitarian needs of the Iraqi people as well as a peaceful solution to the present crisis.
