School Action Plans 2012

We the preachers of Colegio San Antonio in Isabela, Puerto Rico, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

  1. Using our learned experiences in this conference to involve students in the Dominican life by showing them how study, prayer, community, and preaching are not just only four pillars but also an opportunity to live a fulfilling, happy life. Also involving them in the mission to help Africa by showing them that it is important to have people that care for you; it is important to care for others.
  2. Improve the praying system in our school by making it more diverse and active, so that the students get more involved in it. After seeing the different presentations, we would like to bring one of the presenters who participated in the conference to our school so that our school community will be able to learn about Dominican life in a different and distinctive way.

We the preachers of Dominican Academy in New York, New York, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

  1. Demonstrate to the student body that prayer can be expressed in a plethora of ways, not only through words. We hope that the different forms of prayer that we learned this week will included and engage more members of our school community.
  2. Continue to fulfill our school’s advocacy mission and raise awareness of the idea of human trafficking during Global Awareness week.
  3. Incorporate preaching activities such as the dances of inclusion during freshman retreat. We hope this will help cultivate strong relationships between the girls.
  4. Inspire our peers to be present in every moment, especially during Mass, by choosing lively music and selecting inclusive gospels.

We the preachers of Dominican High School in Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

  1. Bring the dances of universal peace to our school.
  2. Teach different methods of preaching, especially liturgical movement.
  3. Continue student preaching of reflections at school masses.

We the preachers of Edgewood High School in Madison, Wisconsin, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

  1. As peer ministers, we will strive to incorporate the Dominican charism and an awareness of our Dominican heritage into our school’s prayer services and liturgies.
  2. Twice monthly, we will volunteer to serve meals in our city’s Saint Martin de Porres Community Meal program.
  3. During our school’s monthly “Dominican Day,” we will assist in coordinating homeroom time to share information about past and current Dominicans and their responses to, and their invitation to us to help with, injustices in our community and the world.

We the preachers of Fenwick High School in Oak Park, Illinois, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

  1. Promote Dominican values throughout the student body by teaching the four Dominican pillars.
  2. Incorporate the dances of inclusion into our class retreats.
  3. Introduce service projects for local charities that everyone can be involved in.
  4. Raise awareness in our school about various global issues.
  5. Educate our classmates about the Dominican saints and our school’s namesake, Bishop Fenwick.

We the preachers of Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy in La Canada, California, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

  1. Ritualizing the Dominican prayer at our school.
  2. Stepping outside our comfort zones and preaching at liturgies.
  3. Highlighting Dominican saints in our newspaper.
  4. Including dances of inclusion on retreats.
  5. Making Veritas week a great event.
  6. Raise $1,500 for Our Lady of Grace School in Kenya, Africa.

We the preachers of Immaculate Conception Academy, San Francisco, California, commit to preach the Gospel in the following ways:

  1. Increase community service.
  2. Fundraising for justice causes.

We the preachers of Lacordaire Academy in Upper Montclair, New Jersey, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

  1. By planting a prayer tree that will offer our school community with a sense of solace and peace by providing a place for prayer and meditation.
  2. By encouraging and maintaining a Dominican atmosphere in all aspects of elementary and secondary school life.
  3. Varying the stages and methods of prayer in order to become more inclusive “in every moment” of liturgy.

We the preachers of Marian Catholic High School in Chicago Heights, Illinois, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

  1. We commit to collecting soda-pop tabs to support the Hope Center, Adrian, MI and the Ronald McDonald Association located in Oak Forest, IL.
  2. We commit to raising awareness about human trafficking in the Chicago land area.
  3. We commit to supporting our brothers and sisters in Iraq and Africa.
  4. We commit to strengthening the sense of community within our school through Br. Joseph’s methods of inclusion.

We the preachers of Mount St. Dominic Academy in Caldwell, New Jersey, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

  1. In September, we will help our school to learn how to expand on, and commit themselves, to the four pillars.
  2. We want to make the Dominican preachers a bigger part of our school, and we will give the existing preachers a way to expand on their gifts through various committees in the Dominican Preaching Team.
  3. Four our annual Justice Day, we will concentrate on human trafficking, and our main goal is to expose it to instigate change whether it be big or small.
  4. We will also bring greater awareness of the Dominican saints to our school via our morning prayer announcements.
  5. Implement more service opportunities for our school to participate in our area.
  6. Finally, we will improve our prayer services and liturgies to reflect Dominican Tradition.

We the preachers of Our Lady of the Elms in Akron, Ohio, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

  1. Create “Sister prayer Buddy” groups between a student of each grade, 9–12, and one or two sisters from our Motherhouse to increase communication of vocations while celebrating various activities together.
  2. Increase involvement of all students at liturgy through prayerful movement and proclamation of the Gospel
  3. Create an atmosphere of appreciation for the Dominican history and Saints through various forms of education.
  4. Apply the four pillars to our daily lives, at all times.

We the preachers of Regina Dominican High School, Wilmette, Illinois, commit to preach the Gospel in the following ways:

  1. Revive the Dominican spirit that has been lost at our school by educating our classmates of our Dominican traditions and culture.
  2. Additionally, we will bring back the new forms of prayer and service we have learned.

We the preachers of Rosary High School in Aurora, Illinois, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

  1. We will prepare to preach at school liturgies and prayer services.
  2. We will continue to teach freshmen to make a rosary.
  3. We will raise awareness of the problem of human trafficking.
  4. We will prepare a presentation on the pillars to be used at retreats.

We the preachers of Sacred Heart of Jesus High School, Los Angeles, California, commit to preach the Gospel in the following ways:

  1. Service and outreach in our local community and our world.
  2. Through the power of prayer.
  3. The four pillars, Veritas, and leading by example.
  4. Through new, refreshing ways like music and art as much as possible.

We the preachers of Sacred Heart Griffin High School in Springfield, Illinois, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

  1. To provide continued opportunities for authentic and genuine student preaching throughout the school year.
  2. To meet with past and current preachers of our school to continue the Holy Preaching at Sacred Heart-Griffin.

We the preachers of San Domenico School in San Anselmo, California, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

  1. All grade levels, 9 – 12, work with two new community service entities.
  2. Integrate Dance of Inclusion and Circle of Respect at grade level retreats.
  3. Increase campus ministry efforts based on diverse student population, including additional education of four pillars.

We the preachers of San Gabriel Mission High School, San Gabriel, California, commit to preach the Gospel in the following ways:

  1. Introducing the activities we learned at the conference and incorporating them into retreats we lead at school.
  2. Explaining or acting as a preacher through my actions in my school community.
  3. Encouraging participation in preaching through service and dance.
  4. Creating a deeper understanding of the Dominican saints and Veritas.

We the preachers of St. Agnes Academic High School in College Point, New York, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

To pursue truth by building upon the foundation of the Dominican tradition

  1. We will build upon prayer and community by inviting our entire school to prayer services focused on the millennium goals.
  2. We will extend preaching and study by bringing home and sharing the knowledge of the Dominican saints.

We the preachers of St. Agnes Academy in Memphis, Tennessee, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

  1. Refocus our annual day of reflection to raise awareness of social justice issues especially human trafficking by supporting our local domestic violence shelters, educating our school community on the dangers, warning signs, and consequences of companies who do not support the practice of fair trade.
  2. Provide follow ups to class retreats that focus on spiritual development and education of the Dominican roots in the form of an overnight retreat.
  3. Create a Vacation Bible School program for the St. Agnes/St. Dominic community (PreK–5th Grade) that educates the younger students on the Dominican saints, prayers, and pillars.

We the preachers of St. Agnes Academy in Houston, Texas, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

  1. We want to collaborate with St. Pius X High School in a shared service project once a semester.
  2. We want to create and maintain a relationship with the Houston Dominican Motherhouse.
  3. We want to keep in touch with the Adrian Dominican sisters we visited with.
  4. We want to make school masses more alive with stronger Dominican preaching.
  5. We want to have a weekly Dominican fun fact on the morning announcements at school.
  6. We want Student Campus Ministry to be more involved in Students Against Modern Day Slavery Club.

We the preachers of Saint Dominic Academy, Jersey City, New Jersey, commit to preach the Gospel in the following ways:

  1. We want to deepen the students’ knowledge of the Dominican pillars and traditions.
  2. We want our students to be fully aware of the social injustices in our community.
  3. We want to strengthen the interfaith spirituality of our students by teaching the art of inclusion.

We the preachers of St. John the Baptist Diocesan High School in West Islip, New York, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

  1. By teaming up with the other 9 Dominican Preachers back at home we will all work together to work with the Campus Ministers to plan a school liturgy that would explain and help others understand that preaching isn’t just done behind a pulpit.
  2. To have fund raisers that would spread awareness on the subjects of human trafficking and support of the Catholic Community in Iraq.
  3. And lastly to make a recommendation to the Religion and/or Health Department to include in class sensitivity and awareness of the disabled.

We the preachers of St. Mary’s Dominican High School in New Orleans, Louisiana, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

  1. To use the various prayer forms and techniques learned at the conference to make our prayer services and afternoon prayer more inviting to our student body.
  2. In light of the Archdiocesan Campaign of New Orleans against violence, murder, and racism, we will develop a mentoring outreach program with our local neighborhood grade schools to promote fellowship and encourage the children to develop their relationship with God.
  3. To maintain the relationship established at the Dominican Preaching Conference with the other Dominican schools.

We the preachers of St. Pius X High School in Houston, Texas, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:

  1. To research and develop a plan for continuing to provide aid to Africa for relief of human suffering and strife that will be a campus wide initiative next year. Specifically to study how we might provide mattresses for Africans in need.
  2. To develop increased strategies for promoting the existing Stewardship for Justice Campaign through study, prayer, and increased leadership in promoting each collection throughout the year.
  3. To present what we have experienced and learned in this conference to our Faculty and Staff so that they may better be aware of the formation we preachers have been afforded and to express our gratitude for their support of our ministry.
  4. To continue to collaborate with our sister school, St. Agnes Academy, in promoting a spirit of friendship, collegiality, common mission, and our Dominican heritage as schools founded by the Dominican Sisters of Houston, Congregation of the Sacred Heart. We will preach together on freshmen/women retreat and also look for ways to engage in service to local social agencies that promote the cause of justice.

We the preachers of Trinity High School, River Forest, Illinois, commit to preach the Gospel in the following ways:

  1. Incorporating the Dominican Blessing into our daily prayer.
  2. Further educating the Trinity Community on the history and traditions of the Dominican Saints.
  3. Planning and leading a Dominican retreat for the underclassmen.
  4. Carrying out these commitments in the Spirit of Caritas and Veritas.
