Sister Pat joins peace delegation to Pakistan
Sister Pat Chaffee, OP, participated in the Code Pink peace delegation to Pakistan Oct. 3–11 to protest drone warfare. The delegation’s 500-vehicle convoy wound through mountains from Islamabad to a village near Waziristan; 100,000 Pakistani civilians joined them in a rally. The October issue of JustWord, published by the Grand Rapids Dominicans, also features an article questioning the legality of drone missile use.
Vocations
New DVDs are resource for vocation discernment
Sister Jeanne Harris, OP (Mission San Jose), a member of the Wordnet Productions team, announces the completion of two new DVDs promoting consecrated life. “Parenting Vocation” presents a JS Paluch panel of parents of religious priests, brothers, and sisters explaining their journey supporting their son or daughter (including Dominican women and men). “Called to Love,” the first sequel to “Jesus Calls Women,” presents consecrated celibacy by Sandra Schneiders, IHM, and a variety of women’s congregations, including Springfield and Sinsinawa Dominicans. Dominicans Promote Racial Justice in the 21st Century
The Dominican Sisters of Springfield, Illinois, and the Dominican Sisters of Sinsinawa, Wisconsin, are collaborating to offer a webcast that will examine the issue of systemic racism. All are invited to participate. The webcast will be streamed live on Monday, Nov. 12 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Central time. To participate in the web cast: Go to www.sinsinawa.org/live. New web site is resource for vocation discernment
Lanie LeBlanc, OP (Southern Dominican Laity, USA) has developed a new web site, www.whydominican.net, that offers free Dominican formation materials. Why Dominican? was designed as a two-year initial formation program consistent with the approved formation topics of the Southern Dominican Lay Province. Lanie also invites all Dominicans to participate in a collaborative Word Cloud project by answering the question, “As a Dominican, how do you live your passion for preaching?” Read more

Congregation leaders meet with education leaders
The Dominican Sisters of Peace Leadership Team met Oct. 18–19 at Ohio Dominican University with the leaders and board chairs of the congregaton’s sponsored education ministries (three colleges and four K–12 schools). Prioress Sister Margaret Ormond, OP, addressed the group and challenged them to consider their responsibilities in light of the Dominican Sisters’ mission to preach, build, and be peace through their lives and work.
