Restoration of Prouilhe Basilica
Progresses as 800th Anniversary Celebrations Begin to
Take Shape
PROUILHE, France. [May 1, 2006]--The
Dominican Order is gearing up for the celebrations that
will encompass the 800th anniversary of Dominic's vision.
In a recent letter,
the Master of the Order , Bro. Carlos Azpiroz Costa,
OP has invited all the branches of the Dominican Family
to participate in the many observances and events surrounding
the emergence of the Domincan Order.
On December 27, 2006, the Dominican Nuns
will officially recognize their foundation, the first
Dominican community, at the root of our Father Dominic's
mission to bring the fire of truth to the world.
Dominicans around the globe are recognizing the need
to restore the Basilica at Prouilhe and fund raising
efforts are being organized. LEARN

According to the Master General, following
the suggestion of the International Commission of the
Nuns "we shall celebrate it with an exceptional
Jubilee, which will begin, God willing, from
the third of December 2006, the First Sunday of Advent
to the Feast of the Epiphany of 2008. With
this beginning, we shall also prepare ourselves for
a “Novena of Years” leading up to another
great event: the VIII centenary of the confirmation
of the Order by Pope Honorius III (22 December 1216)."
In the meantime, a new logo has been
designed to facilitate any fund raising efforts being
made to raise money for the restoration of the basilica
at Proulhe.
