July 28–30, 31 young campers joined the Springfield Dominican Sisters for Dominican Faith Camp at Sacred Heart Convent in Springfield, Illinois. The girls, ranging in age from 11 to 13, enjoyed swimming, games, crafts and prayer time with sisters. Each camper was paired with a Sister Buddy who prayed with them. At the end of the camp, the girls put on a skit which was performed for all of the sisters.

More than 60 retreatants from five Dominican congregations participated in a July retreat at Weber Center in Adrian, Michigan. “In the Beginning was the Word…” was described as “a Dominican, scriptural-based retreat, aimed at deepening our rootedness in the Word of God and renewing our passion for preaching.” In the words of Sister Terry Rickard: “Great preaching, liturgy, and music; time for contemplation and sharing of the echoes of the word heard and received. It was Dominican Family at its best!”
The Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose, Fremont, California, gathered seven sisters in formation and their directors from the U.S. and Mexico provinces July 5–15. The initial days at the motherhouse overlapped with a discernment retreat for eight new inquirers, which proved to be an enriching experience for both groups. Read more
International Dominican Youth Movement
From as far away as Nigeria, the Philippines, Poland, and the United States, Dominican Young Adults, friars, sisters and laity gathered for the 12th International Dominican Youth Movement in Bogota, Colombia in July. The theme of this year’s conference was “Soy Yo En Persona! (LC 24,39).” Twenty-five countries were represented at the meeting. Read stories by Sister Gina Fleming, OP (Amityville), and Br.
