Walking Together with Realism, Daring and Hope A gathering of younger members of North American Dominican congregations will take place at the Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose motherhouse in Fremont, California, Oct. 7-10, 2011. This gathering was inspired by an international panel of younger Dominican sisters who spoke during the 2010 DSI Assembly in Rome. Following that presentation, the North American leadership requested that a gathering of younger Dominicans from their congregations be held before 2013. In October 2011, Dominican sisters who were born in 1965 or later will explore Dominican life under the theme “Walking Together with Realism, Daring and Hope!” Participants in this DSI-sponsored event will include Dominican sisters from North America, Peru, Mexico and South Africa. Keynote speakers will be Margaret Mayce, OP, Dominican NGO representative at the United Nations, and Toni Harris, OP, International Co-Promoter for Justice and Peace. Guests will include Mary Sue Kennedy, OP, executive director of the Dominican Sisters Conference, and Maria Fabiola Velásquez Maya, OP, international coordinator of Dominican Sisters International. Members of the planning committee include Sisters Rose Marie Riley, OP (Springfield); Priscilla Torres, OP (Sinsinawa); Patricia Mulcahey, OP (Sinsinawa); Gloria Marie Jones, OP (Mission San Jose); facilitator Mary Ellen O'Grady, OP (Sinsanawa); Laura Arvin, OP (Amityville); Beth Quire, OP (Mission San Jose) and Denise Glazik, OP (Springfield). |
